Monarchs are in Mertzon

They are migrating south now. They might be here only a day or two . Date of this posting September 30 - October 2, 2024.

Folks will travel hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to see this migration.

And, this is in a public location. (Though, depending on the weather, some years I have them in my yard feasting on the Lantana and Turk’s Cap flowers.)

Habitat preservation: One reason I have sought to protect the Live Oak trees on my property from flooding by IC ISD is that the Monarchs have used the oaks as a night time roost.


Tourism: To my knowledge, the Mertzon area has no tourism industry.
